New York City is a thriving metropolis with many hotels and accommodation options for travelers. Among them is the trendy Arlo Midtown New York State hotel in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. From the upscale rooftop bar to the elegant rooms, this is certainly a one-of-a-kind  New York City hotel. 

However, considering the sheer number of hotel reviews I did in this area, how good is it? In this Arlo Midtown New York State Review, we'll cover my experience at the hotel, including the accommodations, amenities, customer service, and value for money. Arlo Midtown New York State Review

Arlo Midtown, New York State, is a 4-star hotel conveniently located 0.8 miles (1.3 km) from Rockefeller Center in the Manhattan district of New York City. This non-smoking hotel offers 489 rooms and outstanding amenities on-site. Bryant Park is less than 0.8 miles (1.3 km) away, and Madame Tussauds Wax Museum is in its immediate surroundings.

Guests can easily access the city with the 34th Street-Penn subway station and the Port Authority Drop Off bus stop. LaGuardia Airport is the closest airport, located eight miles (12.9 km) from the hotel.

Location and Accessibility

I found the hotel's location quite accessible to many popular tourist attractions and restaurants in Midtown Manhattan. The hotel is on East 38th Street, just a short walk from Grand Central Terminal and the Empire State Building. In addition, Times Square and Rockefeller Center are within a 15-minute walk from the hotel.

The hotel also offers bike rentals and guided walking tours, which made it easy for me to explore the city on foot or by bicycle.

I appreciated the complimentary shuttle service to and from LaGuardia Airport, which saved me a lot of time. They also have a paid shuttle service to and from JFK and Newark airports. The hotel is also easily accessible by car or taxi, with a parking garage located nearby for guests who are driving.

Accommodations 

The Arlo Midtown offers a variety of room types, including a wheelchair-accessible room. Each room comes with its unique features and amenities. The hotel's standard rooms are compact yet functional, with a queen bed, a work desk, an in-room safe, and a flat-screen TV. 

My favorite part is that these rooms also have modern features like free Wi-Fi, a minibar, and air conditioning. The bathrooms are modern, with a roll-in shower and eco-friendly toiletries.

I wanted something more elevated and booked the "Sky" rooms. These rooms are on the hotel's highest floors and offer stunning city skyline views. The Sky rooms feature a king bed, a private terrace, a seating area with a sofa bed, a Nespresso coffee machine, and bathrobes.

The rooms also feature plush bedding and a range of pillows to ensure a comfortable night’s sleep. For families or groups of friends, the hotel offers bunk bed rooms that can accommodate up to four people.

Amenities

The dining options available at the hotel impressed me, though they are not quite as luxurious as in the nearby Pendry Manhattan West Hotel. The hotel has a restaurant on-site, “The Heights,” which offers a selection of American cuisine. A rooftop bar, “Barlo,” offers cocktails and individually wrapped food options with stunning city views.

I liked that the hotel also offers room service so that guests can enjoy a meal in their room. The room service menu features a variety of options, including breakfast, salads, sandwiches, and entrees. For those looking to relax and unwind, Arlo Midtown offers in-room spa services, including massages and facials, available upon request.

The hotel’s amenities are impressive. The property welcomes guests at the lobby featuring a cozy lounge area with a fireplace, perfect for relaxing after a long day exploring the city.

Service and Staff

The front desk employees greeted me warmly and professionally when I checked in. The outstanding service continued throughout my stay. 

Given my travel plans, I requested a late check-out. The staff made every effort to accommodate my request. Thanks to their helpfulness, I was able to extend my stay by a few hours at no extra cost.

Housekeeping was prompt and thorough. 

Value for Money and Pricing

The cheapest room costs $191, while the most costly costs over $400. In addition, the hotel offers various room types to fit different budgets, including standard rooms, bunk bed rooms, and the more luxurious Sky rooms.

One notable aspect of the hotel’s pricing is its commitment to transparency. The hotel website provides a clear breakdown of all fees and taxes included in the total price so guests know exactly what to expect when booking a room.

Arlo is a boutique hotel brand known for its contemporary and design-focused properties and prices are from the higher end of the mid-range to upscale spectrum due to its boutique nature and design-forward approach. However, If you are looking for the value hotel that comes with the reliability of a well-known brand, Courtyard New York Manhattan/Midtown West  or the Fairfield Inn & Suites. Both are part of the Marriott brand and might be a better choice in that case.
